Can a key from an oem setup disk such as an hp windows xp home setup disk be used to activate a retail xp home installation .

Cd key should look like this.. your OEM key would look like:

xxxxx-OEM-xxxxx-xxxxx

Retail would look like this:

xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx

as you can see they are different and wont fit together.

i have an oem version yet it doesnt have oem in the code

Athlon xp 2500+ @2.17
pc 3200 512mb ram
radeon 9200se
win xp home oem

I'm just curious,

Isn't there a product key, and an ID?

Isn't the product ID, made from the product key? (well, to a degree)

Isn't this product ID, displayed under the "Registered to"?

Like I said, just curious. Any and all explanations welcome. Sorry for hijacking your question unhexed
