xp can't see partition after reinstall

Specs: windows xp pro, intel 3.2ghz/512
Hi had xp home on c partition on my desktop all files on d partition had operating probs so i formatted and installed xp pro on c partition only. did not format d partition now d has become h i can see all my folders and files but windows can't any one got an idea how to get them back so that i can use them again

What do you mean, you can see them but Windows can't. If you can see them it is Windows that is showing them to you.

I mean that I can click on them and see the breakdown of the file but they wont run as a program on start up there are no icons and they are not in program list

monkey0178 when you reinstalled c: you wiped out all of your installed programs. You have to reinstall them before they will work.

Usual issue you run into under these circumstances is you get a access denied trying to access files on d:

Solution is web search taking ownship of files and folders.

Simply put, when you formated c you wiped out the registry entries which refers to the programs on the d partition. New install of windows with the new registry are no longer linked to what is on d. Programs will have to be reinstalled to reestablish that link.
