Hello, i transfered my (two) XP from my old HD to a new HD by imaging it (drive cloning). I have two installations of XP on my computer one with password, another without. In the one with the pass, the XP logon screen is replaced by a NT like logon screen and the system logon and logoff instantaneously. And in the one without pass, XP can't pass the blue logon screen.

I use an official/bought/authorized copy of XP Pro and safe mode has the same problem

Note : this is not the first time i have problems with XP partition imaging. In these times of fast hardware evolution M$ piracy politic is a pain...you can't modify your hardware configuration without going into troubles. So why pay for this s***?

Thanks for your help.

When I cloned my hard drive, cause I bought a bigger one, I had no trouble what so ever. Except mine went to an NT style as well. But I was able to login just fine. I used Norton Ghost, but you might just be having imaging problems. I would just go back to the old hard drive and back everything up and then give your new hard drive a fresh format.

Yes, this is the problem with imaging under XP, this is a lottery...sometimes works...sometimes not. And i'm almost sure this is an anti-piracy/hardware detection problem.
I'm cloning HDs since Win95 and under 95/98 i never had any problem (MacOS and Linux too). "format" is the magic word at M$, they think you buy XP only for doing Word for 5 years with the same machine! Easy cloning must be a basic feature, but i think at M$ buying is the basic feature!

Anyway, thanks for your help (1. Clean insatll works, but this is not a solution. 2. I have no account at www.experts-exchange.com).
