XP - Can't download files

Using XP and ie6, I can't download files from the
internet. When I try, the download dialog box starts
to gather file information, then it seems to time out
and displays the message:

"IE cannot download [file]",
"IE was not able to open this internet site","The
requested site was unavailable or cannot be found, please
try again later"

This happens to all web and ftp sites I access. I am
able to browse the internet with no problems.

I've heard many similiar problems, but none of the solutions have worked for me.

Any Help Appreciated!

What have you tried already, would hate to post links to info that is useless but will take a look around technet and the KB anyways for ya.
