Cannot boot up my XP machine.

Windows crashed spectacularly after I removed Blaster worm and restored system to an earlier date....

Now, when you try to boot it gets to the splash screen, then this msg appears:

"FATAL ERROR
An error has been encountered that prevents Setup from continuing.
Windows is unable to start because the registry could not be updated. To address the problem contact your computer manufacturer.
Windows must now shut down."

Then puter turns itself off.

If I go into Setup it shows that both the Primary and the Secondary IDE Master, and Slave, hard drives are "Not Detected"..This info is also greyed out as if the prevent manual modification.(Have two 40 gig HDs in array)

More.........I downloaded a six diskette version of a "Windows XP" boot disk. It runs fine, but at the end it says: "Setup did not find any hard disk drives"

The floppy drive works fine, and I can configure the puter so that the CD drive works as well.

Help...This sucks...Did Virus eat my hard drives? How can BOTH fail?

PLEASE...Thank You All.........Kaara

During setup, you will see a message at the bottom of the screen that says: "Press F6 to load third party RAID drivers. press F6 at this time and setup will continue to a certain point ant then it will prompt you to load the Raid drivers for your motherboard. Once the drivers are installed all should go well.

This looks like a CMOS problem.
It's likely the BIOS anti-virus feature has
been turned back on.

Make sure the BIOS hard disk drives settings are correct and disable the BIOS anti-virus
function!

A dying CMOS battery can cause the CMOS
to get reset to settings that interfere with Windows installation.
