I have a boot problem with my Home edition XP machine. During the boot the XP startup hangs. There is a cyclic green moving line during the boot and this stops after a while. The only option is to reset the machine. If I try to boot into safe mode then this also hangs too and all I see on the screen is the cursor on the top left of the screen. I inserted the recover diskette and followed the instructions but I get the same results. Can anyone suggest how I can solve this?

Do you have a dual boot setup? Your headers say you use Windows 2000.

Thanks for the replies. No I am not running dual boot on my problem machine. It would seem though that I cant get passed the boot stage even using safe mode. Also I do not have the CDs as the OS was delivered at purchase of the PC

Ideally you would boot the xp cd and go into recovery console. You can fix the mbr and boot files from there. See if you can get a friend to lend you their xp cd for this purpose.
