Ok this is like my 5th attempt to get XP on my system, I exceed the requirements for XP but here is my problem..
It goes through most of the install then it says NOW starting windows , then it wants to copy some files to complete the setup well it will copy a couple files then it gets to ks.sys and it says CANNOT COPY file, I skipped the file just to see what happened.. Well it rolled through about another 10 files then told me it couldnt copy another file, and another file and so on, so like 10-15 files it would not copy..
WHY is this? Is there a way around this problem or what am i doing wrong..
SYSTEM SPECS
AMD 1.3Ghz
Gigabyte Mobo (XP ready)
229 PC 100 SDRAM
Geforce 4 mx 420 (already tried other cards it is not the card)
Creative Ensoniq Audio PCI
40X CDROM (Sam sung)I can list other things all day but I know it is not my system specs I surpass the requirements by a long shot!
PLEASE give me some tips here guys.. This is alot of money I spent and need to get this to work.

could be a dirty cd, scratched cd, or even Dirty cdrom.
If it wont copy, create folder in your c: called i386
Then copy the contents of the i386 folder in your cd to the newly created folder on your c: and run winnt.exe from the c:\i386 see if it does the same.

Ok, I did that before I ever wrote on the board here..
I cleaned the cd, and well everything I own works on the CD, can it be something else?
Also should I run that winnt.exe from dos?

Yes, after you copy the whole i386 folder from the cd youboot to dos with floppy and run winnt.exe in DOS

Not an absolute fix for you here.
ks.sys is the Kernel CSA Library, so you're going to have to get over this problem and have it installed.
Try using another computer and extract this file [use WiZip] to a floppy disk [it's only small around 130Kb] and then copy that to your C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers folder.
Generally computers that have problems installing XP have a hardware fault that won't be identified in POST.
These can be:
memory faults: try removing one then another module and attempt to install with Module a only then Module B only [that is if you have 2]. If all works well you will find one of them is faulty, get it replaced. If not look further.
video card faults: try another video card AGP or PCI from a second PC if you can. Again if XP installs you have identified the problem.
Power Supplies: occasionally they are faulty and don't get enough current through to the PC when everything is eing run hard: such as installation of XP. Removing a memnory module will take a load off, but you could try installing without any unnecessary hardware plugged into the power and PCI slots, take out the sound card.
If none of these works, then you are most likely to have a Motherboard fault.
I spent days on one system and finally it was 'perfect' after the M'Board was replaced. I did pull and replce the Power Supply, Mmemory, Video Card, Hard Disk, CD-ROM and network card: the CPU / Motherboard were next in line!
Good luck.

Brian Rignall, post number 4 above. Thank you for your suggestion as it lead to solving a "corruptor missing SYS32/config" error I was getting. After many failed reinstalls it turns out that everything works fine once I replaced a stick of Ram. I had no idea to check for hardware issues.
