You may have to format/partition the drive for use. Seagate should include a disk with the drive for this purpose. Just load that CD up on startup and everything should be cool.

Right click My Computer and select Manage, then click on Disk Management.

I have a similar problem - a secondary hard drive that is not accessible after the primary harddrive was formatted and re setup with WinXP NTFS. It shows in disk manager but cant assign a letter to it (options are greyed out) and list it as a disk not a drive. Any suggestions? My 'life' is on this drive - I dont want to format it and lose everything.

Check the cables to the drive you may have them on wrong. If you do your puter will think it's an FDD instead of an HDD. Also check the jumpers.

I have the same problem as Rich and Uriah, I had to reformat my primary HDD with XP again and this time it doesn't pick up the secondary HDD in the OS. It can see it in the BIOS, and all the pins and cables are in order, so I'm wondering what happened?! I don't want to reformat the secondary HDD as I have a crapload of stuff on there, thats why it was my secondary, for storag! HELP?!
