Ran into an issue with XP's built-in CD burning functionality. It appears that it truncates any filename that is over 64 Characters. Is there a Registry/Other hack that will prevent this from happening so that I can burn longer file names?

My first option would be to use XP's built-in burning for simplicity and the desire to not want to purchase additional software, but if this is not possible can someone recommend software that will burn data CDs with filenames in excess of 64 Chars?

Thanks for your help!

Michael

This is a limitation of the CD format, not the burning program. You will find this limitation no matter what burning program you use.

I am sorry to disagree, but I have already burned filenames over 64 Chars on the same format/type/brand of CD that I previously couldn't using XP's native burning functionality.

I used NTI dvd maker, but it came bundled with my personl burner and wanted to see if there was a way to change XP's burning functionality and/or find a cheap burning app that would do this.

Does anyone know for sure if Nero will burn 64+ Char filenames? Can anyone test for me? Thanks!

This works for me in Nero.

In Nero when the pop up box appears, go to ISO and in the relax restrictions. Make sure the three boxes are ticked, and all other settings are left as default:

Allow path depth of more than 8 directories.
Allow more than 255 characters in path.
Allow more than 64 characters for Joliet names.

Click on thumbnail for fullsize pix.

Thanks for the reply back Arctos. I guess Nero it is as I have not found anyway to get the Windows Native burning ability to allow more than 64 Chars for Joliet names, or even to change the format used.

Thanks again!
