I came across something interesting on the Web - maybe 'everyone' already knows this but just in case....
...apparently there is a 'bug' in XP which Ms know about but they're not going to fix it because it would be too complicated to fix....
...when we Right Click on a Folder\File - ie to get the little Menu - it seems that CPU Usage jumps right up to 100% and stays there until the Menu is closed...
...we can actually see this happen if we have the Task Manager Open (Performance Tab) while we Right-click a File....
....if you want to see this 'bug' working for yourself then do this....
.... bring up the Task Manager - go to Options at the top and make sure you have 'Always on Top' Checked...
....then - move the TM window over to the left of the Desktop and open the Performance Tab....
....now open My Docs and Right Click on any File - so that you get the little Menu...
...while the Menu is still there - look at the CPU Usage on TM - you'll see it shoot up to 100% and stay there until you click the Menu away ....
...depending on what we're actually doing and how many other things are running at the time - this could possibly cause a 'freeze'.......nobody seems to know whether the CPU Usage really does go at 100% or whether it is just a quirk of the TM Display....
....there is a 'workaround' for this 'bug'....
.. Display Properties - Appearance Tab - Effects Button....
...' Use the following transition effect for Menus and Tooltips '....
....if you have a Check in there then take it out - Apply\OK....
You can read about this here....http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=9403

No problem on my PC and I have transition effects enabled. Jumps to 35% for a second then back to down 1-2%.
MS probably ain't fixing it because they cannot positively identify what is causing it. Possibly some particular combination of hardware and software.

I've just tried it and mine does it too. It's never caused a problem though that's why I've never noticed it. Guess I'll just carry on living with it like I have done upto now!

Thanks for noticing that. I have noticed something else too. When you highlight the folder or a file, for a few secs before you right click it. it doesn't shoot to 100%. if you do it fast you'll get to 100%.
Can use your help
