Can anyone tell me why Windows XP would blue screen after attempting to run Sound Recorder (Start> Programs> Accessories> Entertainment> Sound Recorder). If I open Sound Recorder, XP does a "mini-memory dump" and restarts itself. Problem is that the BSOD is so fast that I can't read anything on it to diagnose the problem. Other than that XP is great.

Actually, I made a small error: XP doesn't BSOD itself until I click record. Recorder opens fine but if I hit the red record button, then it BSOD's.

I would suggest uninstalling/reinstalling the Sound Recorder, but I don't know how to do it.

Instead, download a excellent free audio recorder/editor:

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

To have XP display the error message instead of rebooting:

1. Click Start, and then right-click My Computer.
2. Click Properties.
3. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Settings under Startup and Recovery.
4. Under System failure, click to clear the Automatically restart check box.
5. Click OK, and then click OK.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!
