Hi My PC is refusing to boot to windows xp.
It all started when i uninstalled a 3 mobile usb broadband dongle. I was getting a poor reception so i took it back. After restarting my PC I found that i could not get it to boot. I have checked the BIOS settings and the hard drive shows OK. It is set to boot from the HDD. When I restart the PC i get the BIOS screen, then the screen goes blank. The hard drive light lights up for one second indicating the PC is looking for a boot device, then nothing else happens. It does not continue to boot windows. I am able to boot from HDD diagnostic CD, and the test show the disc is fine. I can boot from the windows XP CD. I can go to the recoivery console and I have run CHKDSK R. It detects the windows installation and runs a repair. Do I need to run a reinstall repair or is there another way round this.

My suggestion would be to do the repair install. You should not lose any of your data, but you will lose all your windows updates. Installing SP2 will catch you up pretty well.
