Howdy,
Basically the comp gets past POST then hangs on black screen before Windows Logo appears.
Tried F8 and selecting Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Debugging Mode, Last known good Configuration, all failed and went to black screen. Tried booting with XP disk, still boots to black screen. Also tried a suggestion to boot using floppy (containing Ntldr and Ntdetect.com + boot.ini files) Line of text appears that says Boot from floppy...OK but it still goes to a black screen and hangs...Any help/suggestions would be gratefully recieved.
Buzz.
IF IT AINT BROKE, THEN DONT TRY TO FIX IT!

If you get a black screen just by attempting to boot with the XP I highly doubt 'repair console' will work for you.
If there's nothing important on it I'd blow it away with the manufacturers HD setup disk and reinstall XP.
If there is important Data then make that a slave on another computer, save the data and wipe that bad boy clean the reinstall XP.
TECHZAPORT OUT!!!

I set the BIOS to boot from CD an put the XP disk in but it couldnt find anything. When in the F8 screen theres only Windows XP Pro to choose from.
Whats the boot disk you can download from microsoft onto 6 floppies for??? Will that help.
Thanks for your responses and any help offered!

Sorry, explained it wrong...
When i try to boot from CD text says "Boot from CD/0....Not Found"
I tried the Boot floppy that i mentioned in the initial post and it says "Boot from Floppy Drive....Ok" but still goes to a black screen :(
Is there another way to get to a Command Prompt of some sort?
Cheers.

Had a similar problem with being unable to reboot. Tried the boot CD which amounted to nothing. Running XP, which does not allow you to easily make a DOS boot up disk. Something can be downloaded from the Internet, but it's too large to put on a single floppy.
Anyway, I checked my hard drive by plugging it in to another computer, the hard drive seems to work fine. Thus, I am guessing it must be a Windows problem. Any suggestions on what else I could try?
