Subject: XP Boot Issue - Bad_Pool_CallerOS: Windows XP ProCPU/Ram: Intel P4/384 MB RAM |
Comment: Hi everyone, I know there have been similar posts in the past, but this one is very unique in one aspect. I recently installed XP Pro, and my friend thought it was a bootleg copy and installed some program called reset5.01 - I have an original XP Pro CD. When he did so, my computer would reboot everytime it got to the light blue screen after which it asks you for the password to your account, or loads windows if you don't have a password. Anyway, he left me in the mess and I tried to repair windows by booting from the CD. I had the option to either reinstall windows, or press 'r' for either repair or recovery, which I can't recall. I pressed 'R' and it started copying system files, etc and said that windows would be installed in 39 minutes or so. Whenever it reaches 34 minutes now, it takes me to the BSOD saying: BAD_POOL_CALLER STOP 0X000000C2 (0x00000007, 0X00000CD4, 0X00340045, 0XE1785FFC) Now, I've seen the all the errors on different websites, except for '0XE1785FFC' one and google does not seem to come up with any results when I type in that error. I have some very important software on my comptuer which I don't want to lose. I cannot boot up from the CD anymore because it goes back to trying installing XP and gets stuck at the BSOD everytime. I can't go in to Safe mode either, because it just won't load Windows at all, neither in regular mode, nor in Safe mode. I haven't tried using a boot disk yet, but I've tried everything so far. I could try to get a boot disk and format the computer I guess, but is there any way past this screen? Is there no way I can start a fresh upgrade or reinstall? I already have XP sp2 installed. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. None of the suggestions on Microsoft support seem to be relevant. Thanks for the help in advance!

Reply: (edit)Try a Repair Install with your WinXP Pro Bootable CD. If Repair option fails you will have to do a Clean Reinstall of WinXP Pro as a last resort. Some details: 1. Boot with your WinXP PRO CD 2.At the "Welcome To Setup" screen, Choose the option: To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER. DO NOT choose !!!! To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R. IGNORE To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3 3. Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations. 4.Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair. If Repair is not one of the options, under the Circumstances you are in the next option will be Clean install However I have tried installing SuSE Linux on a different partition and looked at Windows for Personal Files and burned them on to disc using Linux. It was NOT a Plesant Experience and I would not recommend treading that long painful road UNLESS the file there is irreplaceable and need to be Recovered but at a cheaper finacial cost. M

Reply: (edit)Hey maadhurimn, Thank you so much for the prompt response. I was a little bit too late to read your response, but the good news is, things are back to normal. You see, the biggest problem that had surfaced amidst this whole drama was that I couldn't even access the XP cd, as every time I attempted to boot from it, it would continue the installation from where it left the last time before locking at the Blue Screen of Death, which of course was a perennial cycle. Anyway, I was able to get another XP sp2 CD which came along with the Dell, and was able to boot with it. Your response was very accurate and I wish I had read it before I wasted so much of my time trying different things. Another major problem with this computer is that it does not have a big enough second partition and there was no way I could've installed another operation system on it, and you're right about how much of a hassle that would've been. Someone also suggested that I remove his hard drive and plug it in to my computer, copy the important data from his drive on to mine. That would've been even a bigger problem. In any case, things are perfect now, but I'm now working on yet another issue with this computer. Getting rid of all the spyware on it! My room mate connected it to the internet without running ANY protection. Jeez, now I'm trying to get rid of Aurora spyware, which is a pain in the backside. Anyway, thank you very much for your help and I'll make sure the next time I post an issue here, I read it before I start working on the problem! Thanks so much again!
