Here is the problem, on boot up I get the dark blue screen: Windows detected a problem Blaa Blaa an atempt was made to write to read only memory, if this is the frist time remove new hardware Blaa BLaa. Can't get into safe mode, got into repair did a chkdsk/r even changed the cmos battery.
Now the story; First it was drak blue with "config.sys conflick" noboot at all not even into safe mode. So I pull the drive plug it into another system save the files format reinstall XP, it's fine for a week. unmountable boot volume error, so I change from a 40 pin flat cable to an 80, fine for a week.
I have formated and installed XP twice, this system ran great for well over a year.
There has been no new hardware or software installed into the system for the past 8-10 months
HELP!!

try making a boot disk from a window 9x computer. if you don't have another computer try www.bootdisk.com
Use fdisk, delete all current partitions and make new one(s). Restart the computer and format using format c:/s command. after formatting put the XP cd inside and restart.press to boot from cd.

Or try the fdisk/mbr command wiping out your current mbr (master boot record) and start over.

Hi,
I sympatise with you! I went through quite some hell when I first tried to install XP on my machine. Granted, I was not really experienced then.... I would get these messages all the time. I tried French and Anglish XP and same deal. After many trials and searches I concluded that this was due to some material incompatibilities. You see I was trying to install XP as a stand alone, as I did not want to loose Win 98.

Then, I was sick of it, and I let it do its ways. I followed every recommended actions. (I already had Win 98 installed and a Net connection running).

I let it go as an update install. It then, I can't recall the exact sequence, but, it told me there were some material problems and so that Win 98 would not be flushed it would install in a new partition (LOL!) and then it connected to the Net and got its needed drivers (I supposed) and then it installed! I tried every other ways before and would get these beautiful dark blue messages all the time. Now, it runs like a dream and hardly ever gives me ANY problems, despites all the tests I make it go through! (I am learning, so I got to try things!)

Hope this helps!

Marcel
