i have a iso file of xp on my comp and im trying to burn it on a bootable cd to install on my windows 98se
im going to follow this tut but im a littel confusedhttp://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/winxp-sp2-bootcd.html
on the site, it shows them using an img file on windows xp, while i have an iso. Do i just select the windows.iso file where it says imagefile?

No, they're different things. The .iso file I'm guessing you mean is just a full version of XP so you can burn your own XP disk. You need to create the disk using nero, easycd or whatever then copy the whole disk back to your hard-drive. The (img.) image file is a small part of the XP CD which creates the boot image for your final slipstreamed CD.
"I know that I'm mad, I've always been mad"

An ISO is, in the context that your refer, a "one file" sorta like a zipped file, that contains everything on a CD. For example, if I was to use Nero to "copy" my XP cd, Nero "should" take my XP cd and make an exact "carbon" copy. however, I can store that file for later use--to make more copies, as an ISO.
You don't "copy" an ISO to a cd, all that does is to make a cd with one file on it--the ISO.
johnr is correct about the boot image in this case.
If you want a better picture of what's going on, download the free/trial version of "ISO Buster" and you can see "what" is really on your XP --or any other bootable--cd.
In other words, when you browzed a bootable CD in Exploder, you can't "see" the boot sector of the CD.
If you REALLY want some in depth--much of which I don't understand--there's this:
