My boss just bought a new HP Pavolone ZE4400 laptop 3 weeks ago. We put mcafee anti-virus and Microsoft Office XP pro on it. He bought a USB mouse last week for it. Yesterday he switched from his account to a kid's account and the display was six inches by 8 inches and all the colors are messed up. Then a bubble appears and says "your display settings are dangerously low." After that a new window comes up and states "windows has detected a serious error. please report this problem to windows. Send Don't Send" If you attempt to fix teh display settings or click either send or don't send the blue screen of death appears and the computer restarts. I have not been able to read what the screen says because the computer restarts right away. if you push the error window out of the way, you can still work on the machine but it is very slow and the display is all messed up. In an attempt to fix this we restored the settings to 8/25/03. this worked for a while but as soon as a new user was sellected the same thing happened. He has only gone on the internet once, to register and update Mcafee. any idea as to what is going on?

Here is something you might try. If all of this occured when mcaffee was installed then try removing it. When you have some what of a control of windows, go to the control pannel through the start menu. There should be a way to access a icon called "add or remove programs". Use this to remove the anti-virus program. If this fixes the machine than try reinstalling it. If it acts up again, report the problems to mcafee's customer service department. IF ALL ELSE FAILS, TRY 1 resetting the display settings in the control pannel. Use one of the following settngs for screen resolution: 800 by 600, 1024 by 768, I don't know if your resolution goes this high, but also 1280 by 1024. Use the higest color quality as well. I hope this helps!!

The resolution itself is not the problem, rather it is just a manifestation of a larger one.
