Sounds like a hardware issue...and/or a bad boot sector in the hard drive/hard drive failing. First, I understand that you wont be able to see the for it flashes so quickly, so I am assuming what the error is. In order to fix this start off by trying to start windows XP in safe mode...

"As soon as the BIOS is finished loading, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Continue to do so until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears. Once that menu appears, click Safe Mode."

...now if you boot up into windows check all drivers...roll back to old versions if you have to for stability. If windows doesn’t boot even in safe mode, get your windows XP or recovery CD given to you by your computer manufacture and try to recover windows before you will have to do the worst and reformat.

Truthfully, I wouldn’t doubt if it was a bad driver or a corrupt windows boot sector on the hard drive.

Boot into Safe Mode as stated above.

Right Click on My Computer.

Goto Advanced.

Click on the Startup & Recovery 'Settings' button.

Uncheck Automatically Restart.

Click Ok & Ok to exit.

Now reboot and wait for the error.

Write down the error that it gives you. ex."STOP 0x000000C2 BAD_POOL_CALLER"

Now goto http://support.microsoft.com/ and search their Knowledge Base for your remedy. It should be there.

Good Luck

I have two with XP Pro that are doing this! They both started at about the same time. Could this be a virus?
