XP auto shut down problem

I have an emachines T4150 with vc31 motherboard. When I first got the system choosing "turn off computer" from the start menu would do just that, XP would shut down and then the computer would turn off. Now when I select "turn off computer" XP shuts down but immediately starts up again. The auto shut down works in safe mode but thats it. I have tried restoring my system back as far as I can go without losing data but no luck. I have also checked with emachines and all the settings in the control panel power management window are factory default. I am out of ideas any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you by chance install EZ CD Creator? Most likely this is what is causing your problem.

Your computer is coming across an error when it shuts down and XP defaults to reboot upon errors. If you want to see the error message, you need to disable this function. Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Advanced > Startup and Recovery Uncheck "reboot on error". Sorry, not working on an XP machine right now, so there may be slight differences, but I think that should get you there. Hope this helps. Good luck, mike

I installed app: tweaki for power users 2.7 (= win register tweaker) and I selected tab: "allow porwer shut down when shutting down".
