Kevin,

I am having the same problems. It goes beyond just my Palm though. I installed a web cam on a USB port (which took several hours), and now I can't communicate with my other USB port, printer, and COM port. I am going to call Palm to see if they have any ideas. I may call Dell too, to see why I can't get me printer to be recognized.

Kevin,

Here you go. After $25 support charge and 1-2 hours on the phone (2 calls), Palm and I finally got it going.

Here is a summary of what we did (at least how I remember it).

0. Make sure the palm USB is not plugged in.
1. Download Palm Desktop V 4.01? (version 4 something, the latest version) from www.palm.com
2. Download the new USB software drivers (if you are connecting it via USB).
3. Save your user file in the palm directory - could start with your last name? I started over from scratch, so I didn't bother with this step. You are on your own here, but I guess you would copy this file somewhere else, then put it back once you have reloaded the S/W.
4. Uninstall the palm S/W from the control panel (if you have any already loaded).
5. Delete the palm folder and all of its contents.
6. Run the file: palm-usbscrub.exe (part of the USB file set).
7. reboot
8. Run the downloaded palm desktop file (I downloaded - Palmdesktop_401np_eng.exe)
9. reboot - just for kicks.
10. when the system comes back up, plug in the palm usb connector to the computer
11. XP SHOULD recognize it - should!!!
(you can go into Control Panel / System / Hardware / device Manager / Ports and play around with the drivers if you are still having problems).
12. Start up the hot sync manager
13. From the hot sync icon next to the clock (once it is in memory), right click on the icon, and make sure both Local USB and Local Serial have check marks next to them. I only had a check next to the USB and it could not communicate.

Well, that's it. I hope you get it going. Now I have to figure out how to get this super OS to talk to my printer and X10 box. Two down and two to go!

Jim

Hi guys, What you could do in order to allow your other conduits to sync (address book, datebook, etc.) is set the Mail conduit to "Do Nothing," perform a soft reset on the unit, (you know, pushing a paper clip in the reset hole at the back) and then attempt another hotsync. This should take care of the issue.
