i guess it would have helped if i asked "is there anyway i can open this file without the risk of deleting it by mistake?"

In OE, Tools, Options, Security. Uncheck the box that reads "Do not allows attachments to be saved....etc.."

Are you sure it's not a virus? I suggest that you check with your girl friend first, to make sure that she sent it.

I agree with Jennifer same thing happened to me and that is how I fixed the problem. Ever considered using Thunderbird much better than Outlook Express

thanks for the replies, i did what Jennifer SUMN said and it worked. i know she sent the email because she told me she was gonna send it. i cant use firebird because of one setting that i need for my email to work. i dont know if its in firebird, i tried once but never succeeded. outlook express is fine, im not an avid emailer. the one setting is my outgoin server requires authentication. but not only that, firebird takes forever to launch on my 400, outlook is instantaneous, so thats another reason. anyway, thanks guys!

Set yourself up to show all file extensions and make sure you don't open any attachments you shouldn't.

These, for example, are dubious:
.exe .pif .bat .cmd

Almost anything that appears to have a double extension is a virus.

.zip files can be anything.

If you keep your AV up to date it should help.
