I have a problem with the windows XP setup. After the first reboot, I see the logo, then a black screen and that is when it stops responding. I have an 800Duron, GeForce2MX, Jetway Mo/Bo, 256mb, 20GB HD.

Searching on the internet I have found that the GeForce graphics cards are causeing the problem and have to be replaced before setup. Being a brand new machine, I dont want to take it apart and I dont have a spare anyway.

So I want to ask if anyone has found away around this wihtout taking apart their machine. Microsoft and Nvidia sites are no help.

Thanks in advanced.

Hope this help you.
Download the latest Nvidia Drivers. Make sure your Bios is up to date and make sure your motherboard AGP drivers are current for your mother board.
Try to get in safe mode with network support to install the up to date drivers.

You might have to revert back to the default drivers that windows installs when you first set it up...

I had to

driver 5.1.2000.1

are the only drivers that work reliably on my system... :-(

yeah it seems that alot of people are having problems with the geforce cards ... you get past the first part and then it reboots you get to the animated loading gif .. and then blackscreen ... well i had this problem .. heres how i fixed it .. take out your graphic card .. and if you have an older one put it in.. if not borrow a friends .. ( i used my old 8 mb geforce it worked fine during installation . couple other people used there voodoo cards .. anyways take out your graphics card pop in another one . install windows XP .. when its all done pop your card back in and you will be fine ..

essential things to know about XP:

1) NTFS is buggy. You're games will probably freeze if you use it. Enjoy the wonders of fat32 and fdisk instead.

2) DirectX8a is still alpha code i think. Not even finished. DirectX7b is not quite as bad but still unfinished. DirectX6 is unavailable on XP. Thus any games you run are running on unstable half arse code. Your games might freeze if u use it.
(I can't believe most of the PC games industry is running on this crap)

3) VIA motherboard support is buggy. The VIA4in1 driver pack is supposed to fix.

4) Nvidia support out of the box is buggy, use nvidia's driver from their site.

With all these issues considerd XP is still the least worse windows edition, this is mainly because previous releases are so bad.
The choice is _not_ yours.

Yeah, I have a Geforce2 MX400 running under Windows XP with minimal problems.

I have a VIA chipset and I had to download the VIA 4 in 1 drivers to fix it.

Before installing the 4 in 1 drivers: 30-40 FPS

After installing the 4 in 1 drivers: rock solid 60 FPS
