I have a similar problem to some of the people that have posted here. I have been running XP for about 2 weeks now, no prblems UNTIL I downloaded and installed the latest NVidia Geforce MX2 400 drivers for the Nvidia site. Well, all seems to run fine until I start browsing through "My Computer", after about 15 seconds I get the ole "freeze and re-boot" treatment. It points directly at the Nvidia driver as the problem, says it is causing an "infinate loop". Soooooooo, I completely uninstall the driver and remove the graphics adapter from the device manager, let it "find new harware" and then run Windows update, it picks up a new driver for the video card and installs it. I go back and try the "my computer" thing again and sure enough, same problem. It seems the only driver that works is the generic setup based one, the problem is, I play Everquest alot and it wants up to date drivers or the video is all jacked up. I have a 430watt Power Supply, running an Athlon 1.3 Ghz with 512meg memory. Any ideas on this ? Any help is much appreciated.

i'm forgetful...not sure, but i believe the infinite loop problem might be hardware based...in particular, amd. there are some websites dedicated specifically for the infinite loop error.

There are several nvidia driver versions available. Some of them are for a particular card manufacturer...some are less stable than others. Which version did you use? i believe 29.42 was noted to be the most stable. Alot of people are using the older drivers since the newer drivers have been giving problems

Yes, the 29.42 was the one causing problems as well as the 23.11 (?). The configuration ran great on Windows ME so I was sure it must be the driver itself but who knows. Hoping someone has found a cure for this becasue the driver update Windows Update provides is the 29.42 =(. Thanks for the reply =)

Try some of the 28. drivers I cant remember the last 2 digets I think I have the 29.74 or something like that that came off of windows update on a TNT 2 card and they work fine. But I think what works with TNT2 is not always best for the GeForce Cards

I had the same problem with my TNT2 card. I finally found a driver version that worked (2.1.8.3) I also used a couple of third party tweaking programs such as riva tuner and 3charge. I noticed much more stability after using riva tuner. It took some research though on what to change. Now all works fine and I havent had a problem in 6 months. (knocking on wood) Good Luck

I have the exact same problem.

Notice whats always being run with all these freezing customers.
AMD chipset
usually ASUS mother boards and a ge force card.
I spent 3 months calling running around. I updated bios, 4in1, tried different detenators, tried beta geforce and detenators drivers. I have finally come to my conclusion. It's not you board. it's not you vid cards or ram. It's Direct X 8.1a and 8.1b.

try this link below. it works a little better for me now. I called microsoft 4 times. Th last time i was pissed off (they made me call motherboard company and so on). After browsing for what feels like forever i found a forum that had a link up for a direct X fix.
heres the link but it appears down right now.

So yes..microsoft doesn't give a crap for amd users it appears. This is only happening for win XP users. My g/f and friend have the same exact sys as me with win2k Pro runs fine. Prob waiting till Direct X 9 comes out.
If the link doesn't come up i'll ftp the file somewhere for you. Just pass me an e-mail

Bought a computer with the nvidia tnt card in it, and replaced it with a Geforce 3 ti card and all was well until I went to Nvidia's web site and downloaded the new 29.42 driver and my streaming video would freeze up after playing at first then my internet browser would crash frequently. So rolled back to the original driver (which dosent benchmark nearly as high) and have had no problems since.
