Sirs, Is it practical to use two hardrives
one for XP, one for Linux and open the one
you wish by switching 12v power to that one,
by making a simple wiring harness and toggle
switch? Would this likely be inviting
problems? Thank You

hmmmm sounds like a goodway to fry some of the components of the computer.why would you just not hook both hard drives up to the power supply??

Its a bit of a Mickey Mouse way of doing things.

Better to get a boot manager installed and chose which OS to run a boot up. Linux comes with its own boot manager which will allow you to chose which OS to run.

That would work, technically...just be really, REALLY careful.

It sounds kinda like my mod:
For a more flexible sleep mode, I've pluggged my case and monitor into a master dimmer switch...you know, like the ones you have in your dining room. Whenever I'm not using the computer, I just dial-down the power.

That dimmer switch is probably the worst idea I have ever heard. By limting the amount of power you are sending you are risking frying ALL of your components. I have a better idea...buy a hammer and beat the crap out of your computer, that will do about the same thing. On a more serious note, just turn off your monitor, your computer power uses less than a 60watt light bulb.
