Hy,

I have been upgrading to XP. Since then I have the same recurring problem. Once I have been connected to the internet via dial-up (modem) and then disconnected, the system does not reset the connection, meaning that I first have to restart the pc in order to be able to connect again. If I try to connect without restarting, the dial-up process is followed up to the point where úsername and password are checked... then nothing happens anymore.. who can help me with that ??

Thanks a lot, alex

Try getting new drivers for your modem. Is ait a software modem? e.g HFC modem or the like. Go to device manager and check if the modem shows up with the proper name and manufacturer, not some thing generic like HFC modem or the like. If it does its just using the XP default drivers and i have found on many systems that this just doesnt work correctly.

Same problem here on my older winmodem. I installed the NT drivers for it, but no updated drivers will EVER be available. LOL - USR/3COM

Just delete your connectoid/make a new connection and you'll be fine for awhile. The damn thing keeps getting corrupt somehow.

It is a royal PITA isn't it?!! Half the time when I realize I have to reboot to go back online, I say 'fugeddaboutit' and go play Spider Solitaire instead :) Cool game BTW.

Well all i have to say is GO BUY A NEW MODEM.. And try not to get a software (winmodem) those sck anyways. If your not going to, or cant get broadband invest in a good modem. Extrenals are always good, or a more expensive internal. You get what you pay for and $20 modems are terrible.

Hey bud - not to flame you, but maybe you don't realize some of us really can't afford to just "go buy a new modem". Besides, that is the most fun about computers - finding a WORKAROUND :)

that's the whole point of this board - to help each other find a work around.
