I have an old Clipper database app that my business has used for years and we don't want to change at the moment. It seems to launch ok, but it gives any error that is related to it needing a couple of statements in the Config.sys and autoexec.bat in our 98 machines. Specifically I need a Path= in the Autoexec and fileshigh, buffershigh in the config.sys. As I understand it these files exist but have nothing in them in XP, so is there a way to make this work otherwise?

Those files do exist in XP, they're just there for legacy support. So you might try to locate those files first (they're hidden system files) and try your changes there. Otherwise try locating the .exe file for the program and right-clicking on it. Select Properties and then click the Compatibility tab. See if any of the options there can help you out...
