Comment:

I have an old Clipper database app that my business has
used for years and we don't want to change at the
moment. It seems to launch ok, but it gives any error that
is related to it needing a couple of statements in the
Config.sys and autoexec.bat in our 98 machines.
Specifically I need a Path= in the Autoexec and fileshigh,
buffershigh in the config.sys. As I understand it these files
exist but have nothing in them in XP, so is there a way to
make this work otherwise?

Thanks in advance for responses,

Erik

Those files do exist in XP, they're just there for legacy support. So you might try to locate those files first (they're hidden system files) and try your changes there.
Otherwise try locating the .exe file for the program and right-clicking on it. Select Properties and then click the Compatibility tab. See if any of the options there can help you out...

you have to use the autoexec.nt and config.nt
which are not in the root of c drive, the one in the root of c, autoexec.bat and config.sys are not use by xp. at the moment I cnnot remember exactly where the autexec.nt and config.nt are, you can use search to find them, they may show up in more than one place.
