Comment:

I have just upgraded to an amd athlon am2 64bit dual core cpu and appropriate mobo.
My query is simple enough, do I need 64bit OS ie: xp64 or can I trundle on as is...?

Unless you are going to do something like real time 3D modeling, you don't need XP x64.

That will change in the future with new applications and games etc. but that is a ways off. Even then you will want a dual-boot system as XP-x64 will not run some older programs that have been carried forward from Win3.1 and early Win95 without being re-written.

Excellent!

Thanks for all the prompt replies.
Didn't think I'd have to change for exactly the reasons you all gave but wasn't sure!!!
Thanks again.

Cheers
