I have just upgraded to an amd athlon am2 64bit dual core cpu and appropriate mobo. My query is simple enough, do I need 64bit OS ie: xp64 or can I trundle on as is...?
Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

Unless you are going to do something like real time 3D modeling, you don't need XP x64.
That will change in the future with new applications and games etc. but that is a ways off. Even then you will want a dual-boot system as XP-x64 will not run some older programs that have been carried forward from Win3.1 and early Win95 without being re-written.
