XP Always wants to boot from CD ROM

For some reason my PC wants to boot from CD ROM now and not HD. BIOS says HD1-1st, HD2-2nd, Floppy-3rd boot device. Been to MSCONFIG - all is ok.. I think it tries to boot from the Network first?? I have Ntwrk in house. It comes up with BOOT DISK FAILURE INSERT AND BOOT FROM SYSTEM DISK. If I pop in XP CD at this point it thinks for a second and boots up fine?!? Doesn't run SETUP or anything from CD. Any suggestions?

does your bios setup identify your HDs as HD1, HD2, etc. or is it HD0, HDI, etc.? if you have an HD0, try setting that as your 1st boot device, and HD1 as the 2nd.

Note: My response #1 above assumes that the lowest numbered HD is where WinXP is installed.

Your initial question implied this was not occurring before. If so, how was the bios set before? How many HDDs do you have and where is WinXP installed?

Open your boot.ini file in notepad and see if the right partition is listed for XP.

Thanks for the help but no good I'm afraid. Firstly, I have only 1 HDD @ HDD-0. BIOS does have listing for HDD-1, HDD-2, FLOPPY, SCSI, CDROM also. I have tried every single possible combination but still boots from CD-ROM. I have FLASHED BIOS, FDISKed HD, REBUILT XP from scratch.....and it STILL wants to boot from CD!!...I find this most odd as it never USED to do it!!..I have tried Sytem Recovery from previous setup (earliest I could find). This STILL didn't solve the problem. I am sure it something on the Motherboard, but what??
