Hello,
I am trying to set a simple network between 2 pc's win98 and xp.
My needs are only file sharing between the 2 machines.
I have run the network wizard from the xp with the option:
"This computer connects to the internet directly....Other computers on my network
also connect to the internet or through a hub" (option 3 from the network wizard, the 1st after other..)
I have also run the wiz on the win98 (from floppy created from xp wizard)
I have enabled shared folders on my xp.
What's happenning is that my xp can see the shared folders on the 98 but the win98 can not see
the shared folders on the xp. in network neigborhood on the 98 i can see the xp, when i press
on it, it waits for about 2 minutes and then gives this messege:
"You must supply a password for this connection" and the resource is \\xpname\IPC$How do i set this password on the xp (do i need to???)
Before the xp i had 98 and the 2 98's could share files...
I get ping reply from the xp(pinging from the 98).
I have these on my network neighborhood propeties:
Client for Microsoft networks,
the lan adapter,
tcp/ip->lan adapter,
file and printer sharing...Do I need netbeui???(as i had before to connect 2 pc's, i tried to install netbeui on the 98 and it didnt help)
Isnt the network wizard suppose to put all the services/protocols in the network neighborhood? How do I solve my problem?
Frustrated Sefi.

See this microsoft article:
Q162325 http://search.microsoft.com/gomsuri.asp?n=1&c=rp_Results&siteid=us&target=http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q162/3/25.asp

I have a similar but different problem, i have two win98se computers and one xp, all networked on a netgear switch, no probs with the 98 computers, (as long as netbeui is installed) however, the XP computer while seeing the other two in the network neighbourhood cannot access them, when they are clicked on a warning message pops up saying "that it is not accessible, you might not have permision to use the network resourse... The network path was not found.
Any ideas on what the problem is?
