XP 100% cpu usage spiking...

I used XP fine for months fine, then recently I started to get cpu spiking up to 100% about every 10 seconds, freezing my machine for about 8 seconds. I have defragged etc, but it is still the same. Any ideas?

Hi i had the same prob my cpu was spiking and i had a trogan in here and i found him and got rid of him and it runs great now no more spikes i found mine in the windows plus folder it was a exe file i deleated the folder and reinstaled it
