Hi Nanette,

My computer has xmlparse.dll in
c:\windows\system32

Microsoft has this to say about any errors with it:
Microsoft: xmlparse.dll

Or is it something beyond that, that you're asking?

Happy NewYear!!

Which application is using this DLL. Many problems can be solved by resinstalling this application. If the DLL is missing, download it to your windows system folder.

c:\windows\system32\

maybe the AOL website has some info on how to get it working properly. Just post a new question on this forum if you want help with that(mind the holidays, though). Or just Google the web. (I don't have AOL)

Happy NewYear !!

I don't have AOL, so I'm not sure about what to do next.
I think that the xmlparse.dll might be functioning just fine, but AOL may have a problem with it. So, leave the xmlparse.dll for now and take a look at this link:
AOL / support

Post back with what you think about it.
I would uninstall AOL, and then install it again. But check out possible problems before doing that. The AOL-site should mention it.

If you do want to replace the xmlparse.dll, then follow these 4 steps:
1) Create a System Restore point
2) make a backup copy of the original(in another folder)
3) make sure you have user-permission to make changes in the System32 folder (you probably have to be logged on as administrator)
4) copy the new xmlparse.dll over the original in c:\windows\system32\

...if there is no original, then go from step 3.

Just to get my mind back in order:

A)
xmlparse.dll is not yet in
c:\windows\system32\

B)
that's why AOL Companion has problems - it needs that file to be in there.

SO (NO step1 and step2)

Step3: make sure you have administrator's rights to change stuff in system32 folder.

Step4: copy the xmlparse.dll to
c:\windows\system32\

Step5: start AOL Companion to see if still has the SAME problem

I just sent aol an email message. You gave me instructions on how to replace the file. Is what I did wrong? If I do a system restore back to yesterday, will that erase what I just did today? As far as extracting the file into the sys32 folder?

sorry didnt see your last post, before I sent mine.

How do I get administrators rights to change. Its my computer and I am the administrator.

I did d/l and extract the file to the sys 32 folder and AOL Companion still doesnt work. However, I havent rebooted yet. Will that make a difference?

thanx

System Restore would indeed put you back to yesterday!!

But if the xmlparse.dll is still missing from your c:\windows\system32\ folder after that, then AOL will probably run into the same problem again when you install it again, unless AOL installs its own version of the file.

Yep, reboot is needed for Windows to see the changes.

If your user-account type is 'administrator' then you should be able to copy. Check ControlPanel>UserAccounts
What type is your account?

Thank you for all your help. I got the problem fixed. I had to delete a couple things then reinstall 8.0. I received a response from an AOL tech. Thanx for your help.
