Hi, I bought me a PCI IDE card and a new 120GB Western Digital, plugged em in... only to find out that it isnt letting my computer enter windows :\ It just stays at a blackscreen after it has done all of the prewindows stuff. Anyone know what might be the problem?

Assuming that you bought the IDE card to add another HDD to your pc: and that after u installed it nothing worked... Then go back and make sure the card is properly seated in the slot and check other add ins that you may have jarred lose while inserting thi PCI card, especially your graphics card. If all else fails then remove the PCI card, it may be bad.

I have that hard drive...it comes with the pci card because windows XP can't access such a big drive.
As I remember, there were certain steps you had to take. Changing pins on the hard drive, booting to a floppy, etc.
When my computer boots up, the video card shows its screen, then the pci card shows its screen (detecting the drives)...you're probably stuck at that step. Reseat the pci-card, check all settings and cables, and make sure you're booting to that floppy and stuff.

Just to clear things up, I already have an OS on my 60 gigabyte drive. This harddrive is purely for storage. I have noticed that when the harddrive is not plugged into the card it boots up fine.

Are you using an 80-conductor cable for the 120GB drive? By mistake I used a 40-conductor cable on the PCI IDE card. My system would not boot either.

Just curious JaymoFish if you slave the 120GB to the 60GB harddrive you have now and they are jumpered correctly they should be detected in the BIOS.If they are and windows loads you are not going to see the 120GB but you should in Admin Tools -Computer Mnagement - Disk Management and you should be able to partition and format it.
