Tried the download manager wxDownLoad Fast 0.5.4 at suggestion of some Firefox users. Using the extension "FlashGot" to integrate it w/ Firefox.
Main problem is DFAST seems to use 100% of the CPU most of the time, regardless of what else is (or isn't) open or running, and whether Firefox is still open or not. This effectively prevents using the PC for anything else while DFAST is running.
There shows to be sufficient free RAM when it's running.
Anyone else used DFast w/ Firefox, and not had this type problem?
Is there a way in XP to limit a SPECIFIC prgm's cpu usage? Tried switching the "Performance Settings" in XP between "Programs" and "Background Services", but made no difference. I didn't think it would.
If any suggestions on free, non-spyware D/L Mgr(s) that would work well w/ my P-3, 1GHz, 512 MB RAM system, I'd appreciate it also.
Thanks.

Edit / Update:
I only have 512 MB RAM, but there usually shows (at min) > 175 MB free when wxDownload Fast is d/l'ing. Wanted to mention I have my paging file on a 2nd HDD, set at 2300MB min/max. This is over 3 times the RAM.
However, don't think the issue of 100% cpu use relates to memory or virtual mem???
Thanks Capt,
I looked at their page. It was another d/l mgr mentioned on Mozilla's site. Noticed that the FreeDownload Mgr said requirements, among others were:
REQUIRES "Internet Explorer 5.0 or later"
I'm not an expert on FDM, but I'm not too keen, in general, on any program that HAS to have IE. It can mean that there may be some privacy and / or security issues.
Another user complained on FDM forum about it creating hidden files. You (or anyone) have any view on this?

FDM works fine in my XP virtual box ... no IE at all, only FF.
Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'
