IE / Web pages problem / page cannot be displayed.
Suddenly, when I open Ineternet Exporer I get the “The page cannot be displayed” message.
All was working fine before today. I know I can call the IT support people but I want to know how to fix it. Therefore, any troubleshooting technique would be appreciated.
When I type ipconfig in the command promp I get the following:
<…
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : ho.lloydstsb.co.uk
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.160.131.189
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.160.131.1
….>When I open IE, click on Tools internet Options, Connections tab LAN settings button, I get the following:
The <use Automatic Configuration Script > option is ticked and the following is in the address field:
file://c:\_itconf\proxy.pacthis has always been there and it worked before.
If I ping www.bbc.com I get request timed out.
If I ping 127.0.0.1 it is ok. I get 0 packet lost.Thank you in advance
I really don't think it should matter, but, you have a class A ip address and class C subnet.
Try changing your subnet to 255.0.0.0
