First go to add/remove programs and see if there is an entry for WinTools. If so, uninstall it. If not then do the following:

Go to start>Settings>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services Look for "WinTools for IE service" in the right pane. If you find it, right click on it. Stop it by pressing the stop button. Then disable it by clicking on the startup type drop down and selecting "Disable"

Then right click on the taskbar and open taskmanager.
Go to applications and/or processes and end task on the following (WToolsS.exe should already be stopped from the above step):
WToolsA.exe
WToolsS.exe
WSup.exe

Then delete the following files (Boot to safe mode if you have to). Just open explorer and browse to the location of the files, right click on them and delete them.

File C:\Program Files\Common files\WinTools\WToolsA.exe
File C:\Program Files\Common files\WinTools\WToolsS.exe
File C:\Program Files\Common files\WinTools\WSup.exe
Folder C:\Program Files\Common files\WinTools
File C:\WINDOWS\Belt.exe

Good luck

Wss hopefully that the above suggestions were going to clear up this problem with wtoolsa - but - when I go to Control Panel - I don't have "Adminstrative Tools". I'm running Windows ME. Now what? Any other suggestions.

my task manager won't allow me to end the process of WToolsA or Wsup
should i just continue to attempt to delete the files themselves?

I have the problem with wtoolsa, and I went to add/remove programs and found two entries: WinTools Easy Installer, and WinTools for Internet Explorer v2.
Do I just uninstall one or both of those, or do I still have to follow the other steps as well? And which do I uninstall?

You need to go in safe mode
to stop them from running.

Yes, whatever works.
I can't find a removal tool to help get rid
of it, spyware removal tools may catch up
if files are submitted.

Looks like Ad-Aware can help with removal.
http://tinyurl.com/2waj4

Download Ad-Aware and update it.
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

From lavasoft faqs.
Use the Custom Scan with Memory and Both registry scans ON for your first scan.
I keep it at that setting.

Also.... make sure that you activate IN-DEPTH scanning before you proceed.
Actually you should always use IN-DEPTH scanning whichever mode you choose.
This will be made a default setting in Ad-aware 6.2 when released.

Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Scanning Engine:
"Unload recognized processes during scanning."
Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Cleaning Engine:
"Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."
Next...
Run Ad-aware 6.

Mark the objects you wish to eliminate for removal. All of them.
Make a Quarantine only if you do not have the Auto-Quarantine option ON.
Then choose to Next to remove the chosen objects.
Finally.....Reboot

I have just sorted out a clients computer with the same problem.

You need to do the following:
Get on the internet,
Go to start, settings, control panel, add/remove.
Remove any programs with "WinTools" associated to it. First WinTools Easy Installer, last WinTools for Internet Explorer v2.
It can only be uninstalled while connected to the internet as its internet driven.
If uninstalling Internet Explorer v2 and it says there is still programs to uninstall, view the list of programs and uninstall any free search bars. Try uninstalling Internet Explorer v2 again.

Best of luck

To Krystal and Tracycarbon (Responses 9 and 10)

I am running Windows 98 and I could not use Add/Remove to get rid of WinTools Internet Explorer v2 either.

What worked for me was going to Start, Find, Files and Folders and typing in WinTools.

There were three files, and I deleted them all. After that, I went back to Add/Remove and deleted Internet Explorer v2. (Actually, the message from my computer was that it had already been uninstalled.)

I also went into my Startup Manager and deleted 2 references to WinTools.

Out of an abundance of caution, I rebooted to safe mode (as suggested by response 1 and deleted one more reference to Internet Explorer v2.

If this works for you, let me know. Good Luck.

Thanks Tom P for your suggestions. This thing has bugged me something awful & I have spent yet another day on it. I am not particularly computer savvy & in frustration I right clicked on the start button & chose 'explore'. I deleted the "Win Tools" folder from the 'C' drive directly. I have since warned family to not empty the recycle bin as that is where it is currently sitting. I then went to the add/remove patch & clicked 'uninstall' on the IEv2. I got a message saying that it had already had been uninstalled & did I want to remove the final bit?.....yep...I sure did!!!!!
I do know that deleting in this way carries huge risks but I have had a gutful of this one & was ready to take any risk in the end. I think it has worked! We will see eh? I then did a deep scan using ad-aware. It showed 3 minor spyeware programs & I got rid of those too.
Cheers.....
I am not sure that what I did to eliminate this rotten thing was the right thing...can anyone tell me?

THX!!! Tom...Seems to be working. I had five files with reference to WinTools and I deleted them all. I hope I haven't lost anything I need but my frustration out weighed my fear on this one. THX!

Thanks again.

Seems like I've been having the same problem...

I've been running the Entire time with Norton's Internet Installed and they still got in... Today however I come down to find that Something Un-Installed and wiped out Norton's... Its just gone....

That "How to turn off files Site" was great! The Regedit suggestion I did not know and I just turned off about a dozen things..

Oh.. I do have one file nobody mentioned
Zango showed up first..
Then Wintools... They seem to operate the same...
I keep deleting them and in a day or two they come right back...

How do I get rid of them forever?!?
