I have a 3100a amd athlon processor on my motherboard and i know that my motherboard can handle it. The motherboard reads it as a 3100 and i have set the fsb to 266 mhz however in the Windows System Properties it says it is an athlon 1900 instead of 3100 and i don't believe it is running at full speed. It is also reading it as a mobile processor when it is not. I understand that 3100 does not mean 3100 mhz but it should still be running faster than it is. I have 256 mb pc2100 kingston memory. Any ideas?

Sry...but i think u got ripped off...that does not sound like the prossor and mb are fully compatible...unless u got a different prosesor than what the packege said.

There is an AMD 3100? I didn't know that, I know they have 3000+ and 3200+, but the way i think you got raped off too. If window is ready a CPU like AMD 1900, then it's probably AMD 1900....
Pentium 3.2 EE 800FSB /HT
Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
Corsair XMS 2 x 512 DDR550
WD 74Gig 10,000RPM SATA HD
MSI GeForce FX5950 Ultra 256MB, 256-bit
Creative Audigy2 ZS Platinum Pro
Creative Gigaworks S750 7.1 Speaker
Lite-On DVD+/- RW
Lite-On 52/32/52 CD-RW

Athlon 3100+? I checked AMD's website, and it doesn't - as I suspected - even exist.
In any case, all AMD Athlon CPUs above 2400+ use an FSB speed of 333 MHz, so 266 MHz isn't the optimal setting. But you don't have RAM that's capable of running at 333 MHz (PC2100 = 266 MHz).
When you right-click "My Computer" and enter its properties, both the rated and actual speed of the CPU is displayed. The first line under "Computer:" tells you the CPU you have (for example, AMD Athlon 1700+); the second line shows the actual frequency the processor is operating at (an AMD 1700+ runs at about 1.46 GHz); and finally, the third line displays how much RAM you have.
Regardless, you're CPU is definitely not running at its potential, as the speed of the CPU is determined by its multiplier multiplied by the FSB. Since the FSB should be at 333 MHz, and yours is running at 266 MHz, your definitely missing out on performance gains.

Let me take that back, you most likely jacked, my friend.
Jim's probably right, you most likely have an Athlon 1900+, which explains why the system came with 266 MHz RAM (the Athlon 1900+ uses a 266 MHz FSB).

Everyone who is answering here do a search on google and you will find This computer. Which is similar to what this person is talking about. If you click on more info for the processor you will find this; " Note: This processor can only be purchased along with ECS L7VMM3 motherboard. AMD Athlon 1.6GHz processor running at Pro3100A+" It is also running fsb at 266mhz as the motherboard supports it.

Hello:
I had a similar feeling about being ripped off, but the bios reported a 3100 processor right enough. I fixed the windows problem by doing the following:
1) Get to the "System" snap-in in the control panel (There are multiple ways to do this. You probably know how, since you have to get there to see the processor speed)
2) Choose the "Hardware" tab, then the "Device Manager" Button
3) Click on "Processors" and double click on the Athlon 1900 entry
4) Click on the "Driver" tab
5) Click the "Update Driver" button. You'll need to be connected to the I-net so that the download can be done
6) Reboot the machine
7) Profit...

Hi people, I have the exact same
problem. My m/board is from ECS
(L7VMM3) plus Athlon, which claimed to
be 3100+ but detected as 1900+. The
dealer said ECS overclocked it to reach
3100, but is this true? or we get ripped
off?

"dummy-squad" i did what you said and got to the end but then didn't know where to get the driver. You said get the driver from the internet but where. thanks -matt
