Comment:

I inadvertantly made a partition on my non-o/s secondary HDD "active" when I was trying to resize it. Now XP doesn't boot.
I unplugged HDD#2 and ran fdisk to tried to make the o/s partition on HDD#1 active again. I was told no partition could be made active. The partiton was also listed as a non-dos partition.
What should I do?

You can't use win9x's fdisk with an XP NTFS drive.
Use the XP Recovery Console and try fixboot and fixmbr.

Hi,

you can try Partition Table Doctor Recovery tool.

It can easily restore partition.

Make sure CD-ROM is before HDD in BIOS boot sequence then boot with WinXP CD. Press r for recovery console then fixmbr then fixboot.

Remove the CD and reboot.

Best

I don't think fixboot or fixmbr will make the partition active , run diskpart (XP's -fdisk) from the recovery console.

If you used Disk Management to make a partition on the second hard drive Active then I don't think that is your problem because you can have two Active partitions as long as they are on separate hard drives as I do.
