Comment: I got a problem. Everytime I try to save to disk, CD-ROM, DVD or delete from say an MP3 player, I get a message telling me the disk is write protected. I haven't protected any of these media and so can't understand this. Also can't back anything up or change anything on my MP3! Can anyone tell me whats up? Why do I get the feeling its something simple? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Reply: (edit)You Can't save changes to media which has already been burnt to. If you have something on a disk you are trying to modify you must save it to your Hard Drive first. Once you copy something from a cd or dvd it will be write protected automatically. So.. you must copy it to you HD and change the attributes from read only before you can modify. You Cannot delete from a burnt cd or dvd unless it is a cd/rw or dvd/rw disk and on a cd or dvd burner rom. If you don't understaand what I am talking about I suggest you get someone local to you who knows computers and is really patient to answer your questions. Best of luck..Frank!

Reply: (edit)Sounds like a permissions issue. This happens if logged in as administrator? Knowing the correct answer and giving a correct answer, are two different things

Reply: (edit)Respose No.1 is correct... it has nothing to do with permissions. Commercial DVDs CDs are always 'read only,' in other words you cannot write to or delete from. The exception is rewritable disks in both the DVD and CD format. I think you should Google for a bit more information/education on this subject. Once I thought I was wrong, now I'm not so sure!

Reply: (edit)I appreciate that frank, but this is happening on all media, an example would be when trying to burn photo's to disk for storage. Brand new disk and it tells me its write protected. Trying to remove old stuff from mp3 is the same, despite never being a problem in the past! I can't even put a word file onto a brand new 3.5" floppy! It happens when logged onto my account, wanderer, which has admin status
