Last night, i decided to delete the guest account on my computer. Then, i noticed there was another account which i was never aware of. Its called "ASP.NET Machine A..." and it is a limited account. This account dosent appear on the start up screen, and there is no document folder for it. Is this a virus, or malicious account? Should i delete it, and how did it get there in the first place??

No... it's a user account created with certain .Net applications, or even the Dot Net Framework install... DO NOT delete this account unless you want some pc issues to deal with to keep you busy! :)

Although this post makes it sound like the account could be deleted, I wouldn't recommend it. I believe that deleting the account would render certain functionality of the Dot Net framework inopperable. Some applications need the Dot Net framework in order to run but maybe that is just my experience as I use applications that require it that the average user wouldn't.

I am not really a programmer/developer per say so I do not know "exactly" what it does, other than it was most likely installed with Microsoft's Dot Net Framework (an available update through Windows Update) and it seems as if the account is used to run specific dot net related processes.

As I mentioned earlier I tend to use apps that most users wouldn't (ex: Hyped up Access DBs, Remote Management Apps, Client + Server software systems, MMC's etc.) so I have definitely come across the need for the Dot Net Framework to be installed. There's a good chance that there are now many commonly used applications that also rely on the Dot Net framework, therefore I would not really recommend deleting it. Even though the previous link says it's not necessary if you do not do Dot Net development, I would not consider that to be reliable information as that article is more than a year old and that information could be outdated.

Sorry I could not be more specific in terms of what your computer may be using it for.

I hope that helps!

Michael
