I have a two-computer network at home. The main computer is XP and the laptop is connected w/wireless Linksys router. On the XP machine, I can click down to view the workgroup name. But When I click on it, it doesn't lists the computers on the network. Instead, I get the following message: "workgroupname" not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact Admin. Similar ersults on the win98 Laptop. I can see both computers on the network, but when I click on the XP computer, I get the following message: "computername" not accessible. The computer or sharname could not be found. Make sure you typed it correctly. Nothing was typed. Both computers are currently able to access the internet via Verizon DSL. The laptop goes wireless through the XP computer. Thanks

The workgroup name on both computers must be the same.
W98 must be sharing at least one directory on the hard drive. It does not do that by itself like XP does. Once you have set up File and Printer sharing on both computers, you can RIGHT click on a directory in Win98 and select Sharing, enable it, Share As...., and choose the type of sharing you want - in your case probably Full.

By the way, W98/98SE has an annoying tendancy of taking it's sweet time to recognize computers in Network Neighbourhood right away when you first set it up properly - especially if the Win 98 computer is older and relatively slow.
You will be able to see the computers there on the XP computer a long time before they will appear on the Win98 computer, and you maybe able to forc the issue by trying to access the Win98 computer directories from the Win XP computer. Other wise, you just have to WAIT - just leave the Win98 computer on, and eventually it will show the comuters properly in Network properly right away or after a short delay, from then on. Microsoft knows about this problem, but has never fixed it to my knowledge.I had to WAIT a LONG time in the case of an old mboard with a 430FX chipset, even though it had been upgraded to a K6-2 400 in an Evergreen Spectra adapter, and I also had to WAIT for it to find it's internet connection through the other computer. It was fine thereafter.
