Have just re-installed Office 2003 but SOMETIMES when clicking on Start/Programs/MS Office for Excel and Word, a dialog box opens and asks for path to the install cd etc.
However, Outlook and MS Page open normally (these were the only four programs installed from the options available).
The only way I can open Word or Excel files when this happens is to right-click on a filename and use the "Open with.." command.
Help please.

After right clicking, are you going down to? > Choose Program.
Select your program, make sure > Always use the selected program to open this kind of file, is ticked.

Another possible.
How to install or repair and reinstall Office 2003 programs and features

I always select the "Run all from My Computer" when installing. That way, the CD won't be needed again, preventing any damage to it by having to insert/remove it from the CD tray.

Thankyou for the suggestions.
TO AEGIS
I meant to do that but accidentally clicked while in this section. Trouble is there seems to be no way of deleting a post to the wrong page - or have I missed something?
Whatsmore, if you then try repeating the post in the right section - it won't let you!!!!
So you sit back and wait for inspired replies like your one.
Maybe the sponsors of this wonderful forum could include a "delete the posting you just posted because you put it in the wrong section you dumbass" button.
Thanks so much

I don't think it is possible to delete a post.
Aegis would have had no way of knowing you accidentally hit the wrong button and was only making a suggestion for "next time".
