i had a system crash last week and had to recover laptop from a previous back-up (which was fine) since then i can't open word 2000. bit of a pain, my laptop is a lenovo 3000 n200 this came with a trial version of office 2007 installed obv. evpired and i went back to word 2000. i have tried to re-install since the crash, word opens so far (up to the page layout on screen, but then goes frozen before the toolbar can load) any suggestions?

Reinstall word 2000 it is missing some startup files they will be on the disk that you installed the word on so put the disk and select repair

Chances are that it is your Anti Virus program. This is why other sites have you delete the Normal.dot template because this is where macro viruses are setup and by getting rid of this file you get past the problem in the anti-virus.

It could be an add in like WinFax, Adobe Acrobat or any type of program that would run when your Word starts. Check out this posting and see if it doesn't help.

Read them all because all the posters have different programs that was causing the problem.

Another possible solution is to do a Windows Update which may download a service pack for Office but being that Office 2000 is no longer supported by Microsoft there may not be one.
