evilklown,

Posting the exact Program including Version will help us understand the problem better and offer troubleshoots. You seem to assume readers of your post know about your specific program:-)

Most Word opening issues are either from some corruption or mssing files in global template or from automatic loading of some corrupted files from Word Startup folder

Try this and see if you can open MS. Word.

Click Start>Run and in Open: box, type in winword.exe /a and then click OK

If Word opens , your normal.dot file (the global template of MS Word) may be corrupt.
Close MS.Word and then search and locate all instances of normal.dot from your HDD and rename to normal.bak if one or delete if more than one normal.dot found.

REMEMBER Normal.dot can be a hidden file. Before searching for it, you may have to unhide it through My Computer>Tools> Folder Options> View Tab and put a check where it says "Show hidden files and folders" and UNCHECK "Hide extensions for known file types" and "Hide protected operating system files".
Restart and hopefully Word will recreate new Norml.dot file.

If this is not the problem, then you need to look inside Word's Startup Folder and see if there are any add-ins in there that could be causing the problem. You may have to move them all to another location and see if Word launches. If it does, then move the files back one at a time until you find the culprit to keep out of the Word's Startup folder which is usually located in your User Profile or All Users > Application data\ Microsoft\ Word\ Startup

Hope this helps or as XPUser said provide details that will help us to help you.
M
