Normally Word will use the default device. Do you have a default printer installed? Instead of clicking on the printer icon or using keystroke shortcuts thr this instead.

While in Word with an open document click on file> print. The choose the correct printer and set it up as you like.

In the future there is an Office forum for questions like this one.

I'm getting a dialogue box which says

" Welcome to the send fax wizard " when I try to print from WORD

It doesn't have to be this difficult

I would imagine that you have Windows fax setupas your default printer. Note the comments from Othehill also.
