Word doc locked for editing

We work peer to peer Network with XP I have several word docs locked for editing which are no where on system as open docs.Even after reboot this remains the same. What is the problem??

I no longer use Word, but I recall Word having a feature to lock a document. Have you checked to see if the Word "lock" feature is on or off for the documents in question?
