Comment:

If I open word from windows explorer, then word opens with the toolbars top and bottom still there but the page is greyed out and when you click on anything it is all greyed out. You can however open a new blank page but not see the page you are trying to look at. Existing documents can be opened by browsing within word.

However, when opening a word attachment from Outlook this error message appears: "An error occurred in sending the command to the application".

When trying to open word from windows explorer and Outlook is open but minimized this message appears: "There was a problem sending the command to the program".

I am using XP office SP2 and have tried repairing and reinstalling it. I have also run Nortons win doctor & diagnostic tool.

Still the same thing happens.

Check C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\Startup for any files. Move them to a temp folder and try Word again. Also check C:\Documents and Settings\XXXX\Application Data\Microsoft\Word\STARTUP were XXXX is your profile/user name. Some apps places startup files to add a button to Word's toolbar. Often they cause problems. Does this affect other profiles? Sometimes your profile may get corrupted. Try a system restore to when it worked okay.
