Comment:

Everytime I start Word I get the following message which in turn try's to restart Word.

"Microsoft Word has encountered a problem a needs to close." The error signature includes AppName: winword.exe, AppVer: 10.0.4524.0, ModName: ntdll.dll, ModVer: 5.1.2600.1106, Offset: 00001d24.

I'm running Windows XP Pro with Office XP Standard. It's a new computer which has Office preloaded. Anyone have any idea what's happening?

Thanks,

Ross

Do you have the Office CD?

Control Panel, Add/Remove, choose CHANGE, select REPAIR.

Have you installed SP! + SP2 for Office?

You can try doing a search for 'normal.dot'. When you find it delete it. Then open word again. winword will rebuild it. Could be that that file is corrupt.

Thanks for all of your suggestions, however I'm still dealing with the same problem. I've installed all Microsoft Updates relating to both XP and Office. I deleted the normal.dot as suggested. I repaired the office install as suggested. I even uninstalled and reinstalled office. All with the same result.

I have been having trouble with Word not wanting to close. I will try and close it and it will just keep on running and it will say program is not responding. I'll hit end now over and over until it finally closes. This has been going on for a while now and it occurs constantly. Any suggestions?
