i have microsoft office 2000 sp3 ... when i click on a document to open it, it just opens word but won't open the document. if i open word and browse to the document through file/open and click it - it opens, but i can't open any word files without opening them through word...any ideas?

How to change file associations in Windows XP

Also may want to check this for any issues with programs:
Programs that may experience a change in behavior after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2

nono, i think you're misunderstanding me.
say i hav a file letter.doc on my desktop -- it already has word associated with it in the settings.
i go double-click letter.doc on my desktop. word opens immediately, but the document itself does not open....a blank document doesn't even open. just word opens.
if i have word open, then go to file/open -- browse to the desktop and open letter.doc, the letter will open.
this doesn't happen with my excel files. i've installed all the office updates and everything, i'm stumped.

Have been thinking. What is the first thing on the list, if you right click a DOC file ??
Maybe it has changed to something other than OPEN.I am off to work now.
Maybe check for, and remove SpyWare.
Here
you will find links for detection and removal software. Here is another that is at most computer stores,
including Office Depot, Office Max:
Spyware X-terminatorAlso, be sure to update any software online
after installation, and every 1-2 weeks.
