Yesterday I turned my laptop on and it shut itself after
about ten minutes. I turned it back on and the same thing
happened. When I restarted it there was no message or
anything like that. Today I turned it on and the same
thing happened. When I tried again it turned off after like
a minute, and now it won't turn on at all. The battery was
full because it was the first thing I checked the second
time it died, and its plugged in.Its pretty old now, over four years. I don't think it
overheated because it was on for so short a time.I don't know if this could be related but for the past half a
year or show the power cord will be plugged in but the
computer won't recognise it and it will run off the battery
until I fiddle the cord, and then it usually gets scewed up
again. Any advice? Thanks!

Dust around the cpu/fan?
If you can get it to switch on again, install sensors view or speedfan & watch the cpu temp. If it gets to about 80degrees, I'd say thats the problem.
Unless anyone else has any ideas.Could be that now it won't switch on because windows has crashed.

Check the laptop AC adapter connector. They can get broken loose from the motherboard. Wiggle it gently to see if it's loose.
It's really poor design, but they can sometimes be resoldered.

My Sony VAIO (maybe all VAIO's and some other pc/laptops too) has a bug where if your pc has an external Wi-Fi switch (on-off) and it is accidentally switched to "on" and your pc is turned off, then it cannot restart until after you switch the Wi-Fo switch to "off".
