I just installed an HP 9500 CD-Writer yesterday and 128MB of RAM at the same time. The computer runs fine, as does the CD-RW. The only thing is, my computer won't turn off. When I choose the "Turn Off" option under the "Start/Turn off computer" window, the computer acts like it's going to shut off, and then a blue error screen flashes on the screen. I can only see the error screen for about half a second (not an exageration), so I can't tell what it says. After that, the computer restarts instead of shutting down. As I said, everything seems to run fine, except that one thing. I can have it go into "Standby" but I can't get it to shut off.
It's a Compaq Presario 6000 with an Intel Celeron CPU @ 1.4GHz. It has 256MB of RAM (that includes the 128MB I put in yesterday).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello..
I had the same problem on my old laptop, it messed up the Bios.. had to replace motherboard.
If you can remove software. Then reinstall and then reconnect presuming it is Plug & Play it should pick up the HP..
Otherwise goto HP support site you made need to flash BIOS but be very careful make sure you know waht you are doing.
T

first off, right click on my computer, choose properties, click the advanced tab, under Startup and Recovery click Settings and uncheck automatically restart under system failure. Now click start/shutdown and you will be able to see exactly what the error message is. That will get you started off in the right direction. I had the same problem with my CDRW but that was only because I installed Roxio Easy CD Creator 5. Your problem could very from mine. Also check out the link from Huggerl after you find out what the error message was.
Hope this helps.
